In Our Gallery: Water, Water Everywhere

Printmakers member Mary Morrison’s monotypes grace our gallery walls through June 30th in her solo show, Water, Water Everywhere.

"South Shore," Mary Morrison (2011)

Morrison’s seascapes – crashing waves, rocky coastlines, dramatic waterfalls – evoke the power and serenity of nature. “I have always been compelled to create seascapes,” explains Morrison. She draws further inspiration from the printmaking process itself.

She finds monotypes to be the most freeing of all the printmaking processes, a process by which the artist paints freely over a plain, unmarked plate.  This allows each piece to evolve naturally, and for Morrison to create a sense of flow, texture, warmth, and mood.

"Coming Storm," Mary Morrison (2010)

Please join Mary at Printmakers Inc. for a reception on Sunday, May 22, 2 to 4 pm, Studio 325 at the Torpedo Factory.
